Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it’s a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy’s car has been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend’s attention.

The boys won’t get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don’t count on is a new sort of rivalry: an impossible girls-against-boys showdown that hinges on who will cave to their libidos first. And Lissa never sees her own sexual tension with the leader of the boys, Cash Sterling, coming.
Ik heb altijd al in Amerika naar school willen gaan. Eerst wilde ik graag naar high school, inmiddels naar een universiteit. Het lijkt me geweldig met die enorme kluisjes, de sportteams en natuurlijk prom en homecoming. Het leek me altijd ontzettend gaaf om daar naar school te gaan. Natuurlijk zal het in het echt lang niet zo leuk zijn als het in mijn hoofd klinkt (niet te vergeten dat de universiteiten daar DUUR zijn), maar he, dromen mag toch?
Ik vind het daarom heerlijk om boeken te lezen die zich afspelen op een high school of op een universiteit. Even heerlijk wegdromen. En Shut Out speelt zich niet alleen af op een high school, maar draait ook nog eens om twee rivaliserende sportteams en hun vriendinnen die dat helemaal zat zijn. I want! Kody Keplinger kende ik al van haar fantastische boek the DUFF dus de lat lag hoog!
En ze heeft absoluut niet teleurgesteld! Als je zin hebt in een heerlijke contemporary, zonder al te moeilijk plot, hilarisch grappig en met een ontzettend lekkere schrijfstijl, dan zou ik dit boek zeker oppakken! Je vliegt door het boek heen. Voor ik het wist was ik alweer aan het einde beland. Ja, het verhaal is enigszins voorspelbaar. Maar daar lees je dit boek dan ook niet voor. Shut Out is een heerlijk luchtig feel-good boek om eventjes bij weg te dromen. Zo is er bijvoorbeeld een hilarische scène met daarin zowel de jongens als de meisjes en een zwembad… Ik zal verder niets verklappen, maar ik kreeg heel wat vreemde blikken toegeworpen toen ik zo hard moest lachen tijdens het lezen van die scène. Kody Keplinger is echt een van mijn favoriete schrijfsters en weet van ieder boek weer een heerlijke ervaring te maken. Ik ben fan!

Sinds een paar maanden koop ik de Fairyloot boxen. Ik was voorheen kei fan van Celebrate Books (nog steeds) maar die kan ik helaas niet naar Londen versturen dus ben ik overgestapt naar Fairyloot. Disney en zeker Frozen is my jam, dus toen ik het thema zag en de illustratie die er bij hoorde was ik helemaal verkocht.
