Het eerste wat me opviel toen ik dit boek in mijn handen had, was dat dit boek alleen in deze cover is uitgebracht, waar de acteurs uit de televisie serie op afgebeeld staan. Ik heb er nog niet achter kunnen komen of er ook andere versies van dit boek zijn met andere covers. Ergens vind ik dit jammer, want de inhoud van het verhaal in het boek lijkt helemáál niet op die van het verhaal in de serie. En de karakters die op de cover afgebeeld staan? Die op de voorgrond is natuurlijk Clarke, en links van haar staat Octavia. Maar wie is die persoon aan rechterkant? Die herken ik ook niet van de serie. Het zou Finn kunnen zijn, maar die komt niet eens voor in het boek. Dat vind ik wel een beetje vreemd…

Anyway, genoeg over de buitenkant. Laten we het over de binnenkant hebben! Die zit namelijk weer vol gepakt met spanning en actie. Net op het moment dat je denkt dat dingen op hun plek vallen, gebeurt er weer iets wat weer een hele reeks aan dramatische happenings ontketend. De vier vertellers komen eindelijk samen, maar hebben ook zo hun eigen struggles waarmee ze tot het einde van het boek bezig zijn. Tot aan het einde toe blijft er heel veel gebeuren en het boek is daarom ook zeker niet saai om te lezen. Pas in de laatste paar hoofdstukken komt er echt een afronding van de verhaallijnen.

Homecoming is het slotdeel van de serie, maar tot aan de laatste paar hoofdstukken voelt dat helemaal niet zo. Er gebeurt namelijk zo veel dat je het gevoel hebt alsof het nog heel lang door kan blijven gaan. Aan de ene kant vond ik dat jammer, omdat ik graag meer over deze karakters had willen lezen. Aan de andere kant ben ik ook blij dat ze (bijna) allemaal een happy end hebben gekregen. Hoewel ik dit deel niet zo sterk vond als het eerste deel, doet het zeker niet onder voor de rest van de trilogie. Als je aan deel 1 begonnen bent, raad ik je zeker aan om ook de rest te lezen!
